Tonight, the Canadiens played their last home game of the year.

Sidney Crosby's Pittsburgh Penguins (who got a round of applause, by the way… because Bell Centre fans know what their job is) were the visitors.

Mike Matheson was back in the lineup.

Early in the game, Jake Evans was injured. A “knee-to-knee” type hit sent him retreating to the dressing room. It looked like it was going to hurt and he didn't return to the game.

At least Phillip Danault's presence made it possible to—ah well, never mind: he wasn't playing.

The first goal of the game was scored by Juraj Slafkovsky. The Canadiens' big man took an excellent shot that showed us, once again, that he's growing in confidence.

What a beautiful shot.

The Habs didn't stop there. Owen Beck (finally) scored his first NHL goal. You can feel his growing confidence in the NHL.

Is he feeling the pressure of Phillip Danault's arrival in the organization?

Josh Anderson found a way to triple his team's lead in a shorthanded situation. Seeing the veteran find the back of the net is good news, as secondary production is important.

Clearly, the Canadiens were in control of the game.

The Canadiens kept up the momentum. In the third, Martin St-Louis' players played well, despite the Penguins' repeated third-period attacks.

Nice game, that.

Josh Anderson scored into an empty net to put the Canadiens up 4-0. It was the first shutout for Jacob Fowler, who played a big one.

Tomorrow night, the Canadiens play in Pittsburgh.

overtime

– Funny sequence, huh?

– Lane Hutson collected his 100th NHL point in his 119th game.

– Jacob Fowler was excellent. The goalie from his first NHL game was back, and he did nothing to warrant being sent back to the AHL.

– The Habs could have shot more: they only had 21 shots.
