The Canadiens weren't in action last night.

There were still five games on in the National League, though.

Let's see what happened:

1: Weirdest NHL goal of the year?

The game between the Kings and Panthers gave us a good show.

Both clubs have good players in their lineups, and it showed on the ice last night. When you see Sam Bennett and Brad Marchand making plays like this, it's easy to see just how talented these guys are:

Bennett's goal gave the Panthers a 3-1 lead in the game… and they never looked back.

The Florida team won 3-2, but we have to talk about the Kings' second goal anyway.

Gustav Forsling tried to clear the puck and scored in his own net… because the puck deflected off Kevin Fiala's leg. It really was one of the most bizarre goals I've ever seen:

The Panthers were able to hold on, though.

And I imagine the guys fooled Forsling a bit after the game, hehe.

2: Sebastian Aho takes care of the Preds

Sebastian Aho is quite the hockey player. He really is.

The Hurricanes' leader proved it again last night: Carolina won by a score of 4-1 over the Preds… and can thank the Finn, who finished his night's work with a fine four points.

Two goals and an assist last night for Aho:

The Hurricanes are really on fire.

The team has won eight of its last ten games and hasn't lost in its last five outings either.

They're starting to find their rhythm… and without making too much noise, the Canes are also establishing themselves as one of the most dominant clubs on the circuit.

3: Big finish in Vegas

We're transported to the end of the game between the Golden Knights and the Devils. New Jersey has a 1-0 lead… but Pavel Dorofeyev rises to send everyone into overtime:

Mitch Marner hit the crossbar twice in the overtime period. And he wasn't able to redeem himself in the shootout either…

The Devils were hot, but Jesper Bratt put an end to the debate with a simply magnificent goal.

The Devils thus won 2-1 (and let's salute the work of Jake Allen, who stopped 36 of the 37 shots directed at him in the game).

4: 1,000 games for Toews, but…

It was a special night last night for Jonathan Toews.

The former Hawks captain was playing in his 1,000th career NHL game:

But…

But it didn't go as planned for the main interested party. His club was unable to score a single goal in the match… and ultimately lost the game by a score of 1-0.

Justin Faulk was the one and only scorer of the match:

There was tension between the two clubs on the ice at the end of the game. You could tell the Jets were frustrated… which is to be expected.

Hockey as it used to be!

5: The Mammoth is too strong for the Wings

Clayton Keller and Jack McBain gave the Mammoth a 2-0 lead over the Wings last night in the second period. Emmett Finnie, enjoying a fine rookie season, scored his 8th goal of the season to bring the score to 2-1… but the Mammoth weren't done for the night.

Two goals in less than 31 seconds in the third period really hurt the Wings:

Clayton Keller was named first star of the game: the Mammoth captain collected a goal and an assist and helped his club win 4-1.

It was Mammoth's first win in four games.
