Phillip Danault is one of the hottest names in the National League right now.

Not because he's filling up the net (even though he's injured right now), but because he's at the heart of several rumors.

The Kings seem to be interested in trading him, and he's currently in demand in the National League. It's no surprise, even if he's not having the greatest season in the world… because he plays center and because players like him aren't running around the NHL right now.

Clubs have called the Kings to inquire about Danault, according to Pierre LeBrun… and the tipster, during a TSN segment, revealed the names of three clubs that have given Ken Holland a call.

LeBrun talks about the Devils, the Mammoth… and the Canadiens. But then he adds that these clubs are part of a “long list” of teams that have called Los Angeles:

But still according to LeBrun… there's one aspect in particular that complicates things for the Kings.

It's mainly the fact that the Kings, right now, are in the race for a playoff spot. They don't want to send Danault away to receive picks or prospects: they're hoping to get a player who can help right away.

That said, these transactions are more difficult to complete at this point in the season because there are still several clubs in the race for a spot. And the clubs in the race don't necessarily want to trade a player who is currently helping them win…

LeBrun pointed out that there's a world in which Danault doesn't change his address and finishes the season in Los Angeles. But at this point, I don't believe it: for a week now, we've been talking about him as a guy who seems to be on his way out.

I don't see why that should change… even though Allan Walsh has denied rumors that his client has asked the Kings to trade him.
