Playing in Montreal is intense.
When you play well, you're hailed as the king of the world, but when you have a rough patch, you're going to be reminded of it by the fans.
The fans are intense, and Geoff Molson knows it. In an interview with Martin McGuire of 98.5 Sports, the Canadiens owner admitted that seeing a player personally booed is the hardest thing to swallow.
Geoff Molson confides: hearing the crowd boo one of his own players is the hardest thing to swallow as an owner. A brutal reality of the Montreal market.

Molson understands that at times, it's normal for fans to be upset with the team's performance and decide to boo the players on the ice.
What he doesn't like is singling out any one player.
As he explains, it's a situation that can play on a player's mind. The fans are frustrated and that's understandable, but this kind of action makes the player afraid to go out on the ice and be booed.
Not everyone will agree with Geoff Molson's comments, but it's easy to see his point. The Canadiens are his team, not unlike his family. To see someone close to you receive so much hate, it sure hurts.
The best example is Samuel Montembeault this season.
It wasn't necessarily booing Montembeault, but a little more sarcastic encouragement. Fans at the Bell Centre had applauded on November 4 after the Québécois made a save on a Flyers clearance.
Molson explained it well: this kind of gesture plays on the minds of the guys on the ice. We can't blame the fans for Montembeault's setbacks, but this kind of situation doesn't help his cause.
