Fan pressure in Carolina: Michael McLeod signs long-term deal in Russia

A few weeks ago, Michael McLeod was thought to have a good chance of signing with the Carolina Hurricanes, but due to pressure from some Carolina fans, the Hurricanes backed off. And in the end, neither McLeod nor Carter Hart will sign there. Hart is headed for Vegas anyway. But then again, nothing is done.McLeod's name hadn't been circulated elsewhere in the NHL, and we wondered how much another club would want to take a chance on the player. But in the end, it seems no one wanted him. Why not?

Clearly, he must have felt no interest in the NHL to sign, right now, a contract for no less than three campaigns with the Omsk Avangard. If he'd had any hope, he would have kept a door open for himself. The more time passes, the more I get the feeling that Team Canada junior players who aren't Carter Hart won't be coming back to the NHL. I don't think the others have the talent to make the negative comments surrounding their potential signing worthwhile, and when you see the way things are shaping up, you get the feeling that NHL teams feel the same way. Remember that Team Canada junior players can't play in the NHL until December (they're suspended until then), but they're allowed to chat to teams in the meantime.

On October 15, potential contracts can be officially announced.
