Logan Mailloux really seems to have found his niche with the St. Louis Blues. There's a better chance of him playing in the NHL this year with the Blues than with the Montreal Canadiens,and his head coach is really impressed with his work in practice so far, giving him plenty of points for making the big club. His team-mates are too, and he's playing good hockey so far and earning points in different ways. Last night, he found another way to get points from his coach: first, Mailloux gave Chicago Blackhawks player Sam Lafferty a good check, which created a scrum. Finally, Colton Dach, Kirby Dach's little brother, decided to come to his teammate's defense by throwing down the gloves against Mailloux. Quite an interesting fight.

There was no dominance on either side. The two big guys exchanged a few good punches, but in the end it was the former Habs defenseman (or Laval Rocket defenseman, rather) who had the upper hand by toppling Dach. Not only is Mailloux showing great things offensively at practice in Saint-Louis, but he's playing a physical, imposing game every time he's on the ice. In two pre-season games, Mailloux has handed out five checks and is eating up big minutes, and he seems to have Jim Montgomery's confidence already. If Mailloux is more reliable without the puck and creates fewer turnovers, he could certainly become an imposing and very useful right-handed defenseman in the big league. He has the tools to succeed in the NHL, but he absolutely must improve his defensive game if he is to achieve more. Let's see what the Blues have in store for him this season: there's definitely room on the right flank of the Blues' defensive brigade.
