Sometimes, hockey players drop the gloves on the ice, as we saw last night when Florian Xhekaj took his courage in both hands to fight Nicolas Deslauriers, who is not an obvious customer. But sometimes, fights break out in the stands. The Oilers were visiting the home of the Jets, and during the game, fans got into a fistfight in the stands a few rows from the rink. In a video posted on Reddit by a Jets fan, you can see that things got a little heated and that several people were involved in the melee. To get to this point, something clearly happened. And it sounds like I'd be curious to know how some fans decided to start beating the crap out of each other… during a preseason game.

Obviously, these things happen. You don't often see fights in the stands, but it's not as if they've never happened either. That said… These fights between fans are unacceptable and should never, ever happen. Because in reality, violence shouldn't be used to settle anything, no matter what's been said or done. And it's not a good image for the sport either. If you go to a game, it's to cheer on your team… not to create anything violent in the stands because it's simply unnecessary. We don't know the full story, but we also have to wonder whether the Jets will take action on the matter. We could expect to see fans suspended or banned from games in Winnipeg, and I wonder if the police will want to take a look at this.
