The Hobey Baker trophy is awarded to the best hockey player in the NCAA. And here are the 10 nominees for the 2024-2025 season.

Zeev Buium, Jack Devine, Aiden Fink, Mac Gadowsky, Isaac Howard, Ryan Leonard, Ayrton Martino, Liam McLinskey, Jimmy Snuggerud, and Alex Tracy are the 10 players in question.

These are not the most well-known names (aside from Leonard and Buium) to the Québécois public.

What’s important to know is that in Montreal, they were watching two names in this regard: Michael Hage and Jacob Fowler. However, the two players were not nominated for the trophy.

In both cases, seeing them nominated was not a guarantee. Especially in Hage’s case, who was good but didn’t dominate as a rookie.

But it’s still worth noting this in relation to Fowler, who could have seen his name come out: another goalkeeper (Alex Tracy) was nominated. If there hadn’t been a goalkeeper in the top-10, that would have been one thing, but…

Tracy, a goalkeeper who plays for Minnesota, has 25 wins in 36 games. His average of 1.41 and his efficiency rate of .946 are excellent, let’s say.

Fowler, on the other hand, has 24 wins in 33 games. He gave up 52 goals (against 51 for Tracy), has an average of 1.64, and an efficiency rate of .940. Statistically speaking, the non-drafted goalkeeper from Minnesota State has better numbers.

Fowler may not have a chance to win the Hobey Baker next year since he’s expected to make the jump to the pros once the Eagles are done playing this season.
