In 2024, I see Juraj Slafkovsky establishing himself as the habs’s best forward.
Right now, Juraj Slafkovsky is in the news for all the right reasons.

His progress on the ice is noticeable, and we’re now seeing why the Habs decided to select him with the very first overall pick in the 2022 draft.

The young man is gaining experience and you can see it in his confidence on the ice. He’s making the right decisions, which hasn’t always been the case since his NHL debut.

Questions are often asked about his offensive ceiling, which is virtually impossible to determine because he has only 76 games of big-league experience.

But Pierre McGuire has seen enough to believe that Slaf has the potential to become a 30-35 goal scorer per year. And he also sees him putting up 65 to 75 points a season, as he confided to the Sick Podcast:

I think he can be a 30-35 goal scorer a year and I think he can do 65-75 points a season. But I think he can be a power forward who will create space for Caufield and Suzuki […] I think his ceiling is really high. – Pierre McGuire

I love the Pierre McGuire quote.

The more things go on, the more positive comments we hear about the Habs’ young player. It just means he’s doing things the right way…

But I wonder if Slaf really has what it takes to be a 35-goal scorer. In the last few games, I’ve mostly found that he’s trying to find his teammates more than anything else on the ice. That’s not a criticism – on the contrary – but he needs to get to the net more often if he wants to hone his scoring skills.

That said, I think we can all agree that if Slaf really does become a 35-goal-a-season scorer, the Habs will have solved one of their big problems.

Offensive players of this kind are rather rare in Montreal, and we know that Caufield is a goal scorer, but he’s needed help in that department since the start of the campaign.

In any case, there’s one thing we can say right now. Juraj Slafkovsky is heading in the right direction, and it’s great to see how much he’s progressing this season.
