P.K. Subban gives Zegras and Bedard a warning
Credit: Twitter

If P.K. Subban took the trouble to warn young sensations Trevor Zegras and Connor Bedard, it was because of the “Michigan”-type goals the two phenomena allowed themselves on the same evening (December 23).

Of course, Subban remains a fanatic of this type of goal(s), and the two young men impressed the former number 76 blue-white-red. Here’s what P.K. had to say, translated by Le Journal de Montréal:

“Trevor Zegras and Connor Bedard are absolutely “disgusting”. At that moment, they’re exposing not only the goalie, but all five players on the ice, embarrassing them in front of 20,000 people and millions of people watching from coast to coast. I think it’s absolutely brilliant.” – Subban

However, if he wasn’t retired and facing the two young stars, he would have checked them the next shift or game.

“Is it great for hockey? Well, I don’t know. I’ll tell you something, if I played, I’d probably hit them!” – Subban

It was via platform X, formerly Twitter, that Subban spoke out, posting a short video to warn the two players of the risk they now run.

Subban knows exactly what he’s talking about, since he was an exuberant player himself, a player marked by his “cocky” attitude and his occasional spectacular pirouettes.

Nonetheless, the younger generation rejoices when they see such an exceptional feint that was unheard of in the days when I started watching hockey with the likes of Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky, Joe Sakic, Steve Yzerman and Jeremy Roenick.

In short, despite the risk of being hit, Bedard is headed straight for the Calder Trophy thanks to a monstrous 30 points, including 13 goals, in 33 games. As for Zegras, well, he’s a tad arrogant, but he remains one of the driving forces behind the young Anaheim Ducks.
