Johnathan Kovacevic: displeasing Martin St-Louis hurts more than other coaches
Since his arrival in Montreal, Martin St-Louis has been transforming this organization. The Habs started from the ground up with their new coach almost two years ago.

And even if the victories aren’t there, let’s just say that the club is moving in the right direction.

Of course, it’s clear that even if MSL didn’t have much experience behind the bench when he arrived in town, he had acquired his experience in other ways, for credibility’s sake.

Because without credibility, he wouldn’t have gotten far.

When you take a guy like Johnathan Kovacevic, who didn’t really get his chance in the NHL before coming to Montreal, you think that playing for a guy like St-Louis must be special.

And that, as Arpon Basu wrote this morning, the defenseman confirms.

Kovacevic explains that St-Louis has its own rules that have nothing to do with those of the NHL books. They’re the coach’s rules… not to be broken on the ice.

And when that happens, it’s hard to feel good about it.

I’m not going to lie, I broke a rule on Wednesday. And Martin wasn’t happy. I can understand that.

It’s different when St-Louis gets mad at you compared to another coach. – Johnathan Kovacevic

Clearly, the Habs knew this could happen when Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes handed the keys to the bench to Hall of Famer St-Louis.

So much the better if it keeps the guys straight.
