Promotional campaign around your blonde’s “balls”: the Saguenéens get away with it

Yesterday, the QMJHL was the talk of the town. But how? By becoming… the QMJHL.

From the Ligue de Hockey Junior Majeur du Québec (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) to the Ligue de Hockey Junior Maritimes Québec (Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League). The word “Maritimes” has been replaced by “Québec” to keep “QMJHL”, and the league now has an English logo.

Yesterday, it was the talk of the town… and I imagine the league would like me to write about it this morning, instead of talking about the Saguenéens’ Christmas promo. But that’s not going to happen.

Why not? Because the Saguenéens missed it.

A TikTok video has been posted on the club’s account, showing a man making comments that are completely out of character. It’s a succession of degrading, uncomfortable jokes that, frankly, aren’t as funny as he thought they were.

The Journal de Montréal wrote an article about it.

It starts with a Saguenéens employee trying to promote the team’s boutique. He starts off by talking about how if you don’t want your uncle to go to Turkey for a hair transplant, you can buy him a cap instead.

And it doesn’t get any better than that.

Then the employee decided to cross the line by going too far. He obviously forgot that he wasn’t in a bar in 1980, but starring in a public video.

And here’s what he said.

Now, your girlfriend has beautiful baubles, you think they’re perfect, but she wants bigger ones, new ones… A Saguenéens Christmas bauble!

It’s blue, it’s round, it’s smooth and it’s perfect. It’s my favorite.

You’ll understand that such comments in the name of humor, in 2023, caused quite a stir. And when you listen to the rest, you get the sense that the guy was clearly trying to disturb with a… different angle. He said to himself: speak well of it, speak badly of it… but speak out.

He went on to talk to those who don’t like sports, who talk on the tip of their tongues and wear glasses. Naturally, he recommended a Saguenéens book.

Then, after accusing us of being at the heart of the global warming problem because we wear clothes, he announced that we might as well wear the Sags’. #Logic

But wait: he went on to reduce women to sexual objects.

And ladies, we’re thinking of you: pink t-shirts, pink polo shirts.

With these on, your favorite player will notice you. Take my word for it.

After urging girls to get noticed by players in a segment even more uncomfortable than the rest of the video, he finished by calling Remparts fans cows.

Hey boy.

Clearly, this is a case of an employee having his way. He probably thought he was doing the right thing by making comments that would go viral, but he really lacked judgment.

He really did.

He didn’t align his personal vision (and that of the team around him) with the club’s big gums. The Saguenéens’ director of operations, Serge Proulx, said marketing approved the video, but he didn’t. He hadn’t seen it before. He hadn’t seen it until it exploded on TikTok.

This is what Radio-Canada reports on the subject.

We’re able, with introspection, to see what’s best to do. Then again, once we looked at it, we knew we were starting from the right place.

But at the same time, we don’t want to offend anyone. – Serge Proulx

It’s absolutely not what the club needed. At the moment, let’s just say that everyone is really talking badly about the organization in the public arena, which isn’t ideal.

To say the least.
