Quebec City games: Kings want to invite Patrice Bergeron

THE topic of the day in Quebec’s NHL today is the Kings’ visit to Quebec in 2024.

As my colleague Félix Forget revealed, the Canadiens volunteered to play for free, but the Quebec government preferred to subsidize the Los Angeles Kings.

What a farce.

Naturally, there’s a big reaction to this situation (and rightly so). In fact, more money has been invested in this Kings trip than in the Quebec City pee-wee tournament, one of the region’s biggest events.

But hey. The damage is done, and the Kings will play two preparatory games in the provincial capital next year. One of those games is against the Boston Bruins. So it’s the perfect time to invite Patrice Bergeron.

Yes, Luc Robitaille’s Kings intend to invite the Quebecer, who is open to the idea of bringing the Nordiques back to the NHL.

Robitaille (not Bergeron’s team) will try to get him to the game. He knows that the Quebecer means a lot to the region.

As the GM points out, it would be a great opportunity for the people of Quebec City to say hello to the former Bruins captain, but also a great opportunity for Phillip Danault and Pierre-Luc Dubois, the club’s two Quebecers, to reconnect with family, in particular.

And for the other Kings players, it’s not a pointless trip, as they’ll be able to spend time with their buddies.

In addition to the two NHL duels, Robitaille would like to host an event to help minor hockey during the weekend. The Quebecer and Hall of Famer has plenty of good intentions for this trip. Let’s hope it comes to fruition.

I can tell it’s going to be a great weekend of hockey for the people of Quebec City. – Luc Robitaille

In gusto

– Keep an eye on Florida.
