Exactly 20 years ago, this young man made his professional debut at the legendary, now-defunct CKAC 730-AM station.

The host said he had not been cut, but rather had done what he had to do with his show. Being in the studio full-time wasn’t necessarily in his plans at this point.
He also said that he would remain part of the TVA Sports family (although he was also approached to host the 9 a.m. to noon show on BPM Sports along the way… and the job was ultimately offered to Max Lalonde) and that his new challenge would be announced in the coming weeks.
In a few weeks, he will begin his new three-year contract, which will see him become (among other things) the station’s field hockey and baseball play-by-play announcer.
This comes 20 years after his debut in the business, and it’s well deserved.
His three-year contract coordinates with the NHL’s contract with TVA Sports. In three years’ time, the NHL’s national rights will have to be renegotiated with the NHL.
And since Pierre-Karl Péladeau is the first to say that he might not be able to afford to fight with the big players to keep the rights…
Since TVA Sports will have 272 NHL games on the air this year, there’s plenty of room for talent on the airwaves. He won’t be there for the Habs games, but that’s a minority of the games, in fact.
He joins a very interesting duo (Félix Séguin, who does the Canadiens games, and Sébastien Goulet) in describing the games.
The baseball aspect of the contract is also important. After all, the Blue Jays have 81 games a year on TVA Sports from 2023 to 2025, and the station has games from other teams as well as playoff games. There are new faces in MLB at TVA Sports, and he’s one of them.
This will keep Bertrand, who knows both sports very well, busy. Seeing him add the word “notably” to his publication is also interesting, as it opens the door to other challenges.
