Your daily dose of hockey
Lane Hutson is not only good offensively

When you think of Lane Hutson, you think of his ability to produce points and skate like no one else. But that’s not all that describes the Canadiens’ defensive prospect. He does very well defensively and even physically.

That’s what he showed in Saturday’s game at the U.S. Junior Team summer camp. He spoke to NHL. com after his game.

During the match, he sported a beautiful “bruise” on the side of his head, which he sustained during physical play during the game.

According to his American teammate, Rutger McGroarty, Hutson has a lot of heart and gives his all to every game and practice. He even gets angry when the team loses! He has a great sense of competition.

“He’s got dog in him.” – Rutger McGroarty

Despite his 5 feet 9 inches, which may seem small for a defenseman, you quickly realize that he’s capable of finding other ways to do good physical work.

And this physical work helps him a lot defensively. His skating and vision also help him stand out defensively.

U.S. head coach David Carle explained to reporters on Saturday that Hutson is able to control forwards when he doesn’t have the puck, and that his skating allows him to play impeccable defense.

In any case, Lane Hutson still has plenty of time to learn how to be even better in all aspects of the game.

He admitted to reporters that he feels he’s getting closer and closer to the NHL, but that he’ll at least spend next season with Boston University in the NCAA, where he broke it all last year.

Hutson continues to surprise us every day. He could surprise the world at this year’s World Junior Championship, and he should definitely be part of the U.S. squad.
