Daniel Brière is open to trading Carter Hart

Carter Hart is an intriguing goalie. He began his NHL career with two good seasons. The next two weren’t very convincing, but the man who idolized Carey Price when he was younger bounced back in fine style in 2022-2023.

He maintained an efficiency average of .907 and a goals-against average of 2.94. Not bad for a guy who played behind the Flyers’ defense.

According to Chuck Bausman of HockeyPhillyNow, new GM Daniel Brière is certain that Hart is his goalie of the future, but that doesn’t mean he’s untouchable. In fact, Brière is reportedly listening to offers for his goalie and would even be willing to trade him.

Drafted in the second round in the 2016 draft, Hart was destined for a great career. He’s still destined for a great career. At 24, he’s still very young, and we often start to see the true potential of goalkeepers in their mid-twenties. Is this the season that will determine what happens next for the American?

It’s a shame he doesn’t have a competitive team in front of him, but if he has another good season, maybe his status will go from “tradeable” to “untouchable”.

Obviously, we have to make connections with the Canadiens. Could Kent Hughes be interested in the goalie? In any case, my colleague Mitch Giguère isn’t against the idea. We know that the Habs GM might like to add a good goalie to his team. With Samuel Montembeault having just won the World Championship gold medal, one wonders whether Hughes still has a goalie in his plans.

After all, Monty is also very young (26). For him too, who will become a free agent at the end of the season, 2023-2024 will be a very important year.

In the long term, there is cause for concern in front of the Montreal net. In addition to the Quebecer, Montreal is counting on Cayden Primeau, Frederik Dichow and Jakub Dobes, but none of them seem to be a solid, convincing option.

Other goalkeepers such as Jeremy Swayman (RFA), Linus Ullmark, Devon Levi and Ukko Pekka-Luykkonen could also be interesting options for Hughes if he’s really looking for a number-one goalkeeper of the future. Levi was Montembeault’s teammate at the CDM 2023.

Getting back to Hart, next season will be a pivotal moment in his development and continuation. Will he start it in Philadelphia? Will Hughes make another Kirby Dach trade at the draft to get him?

In gusts

– A moment he’ll never forget.

– A look back.

– Indeed, what a year!

– Why not?

– Not bad.
