White game for Samuel Montembeault at the World Championship

It’s not necessarily the most popular topic in town at the moment, but today saw the start of the World Championship.

For the occasion, Canada faced Latvia in their first match of the tournament… And, let’s just say, the Canadians didn’t give their opponents much of a chance. The match ended 6-0 in favor of Unifolié.

The focus was on Samuel Montembeault, who got the start for Canada. The CH goaltender did well, stopping all 23 shots that came his way.

It was a solid opening performance from both the team and Monty.

It should be noted that Justin Barron was cleared from the scoresheet.

MacKenzie Weegar, Samuel Blais, Joe Veleno, Jack McBain, Scott Laughton and Lawson Crrouse scored for the Canadiens.

The game also gave fans a chance to see Adam Fantilli in action, the second overall pick in the upcoming NHL draft. The result?

He finished the game with one assist and 12 minutes and 36 seconds of playing time. No, he didn’t necessarily play much…

But let’s not forget that the Canadian squad is full of NHL players. Veterans get more opportunities, and that’s only to be expected.

During the tournament, however, I’d like to see him get a chance to shine, a bit like Sweden did with Leo Carlsson. Carlsson was placed at the center of the team’s first trio with Lucas Raymond and Alex Nylander.

In a nutshell.

All in all, Canada got off to a good start to the tournament. The team’s next game is on Sunday, against Slovenia.
