“I can’t believe I have to answer some of these questions about me getting fired, brought up by the media. Disappointing.”

Since the Rangers’ elimination, there have been rumours that Gerard Gallant could be fired.
After all, his team hasn’t been able to get past the first round even with all the big additions to the team in recent months, and some are pointing the finger at him for the Rangers’ failure.
But in reality, Gallant has little to reproach himself for. He’s not the one who hasn’t delivered the goods on the ice, rather it’s some of the New York team’s star players.
I’m referring to Artemi Panarin, who hasn’t found the back of the net in seven games against New Jersey. Mika Zibanejad also needs to take a look in the mirror. In a nutshell.
The Rangers’ current head coach is aware of the whispers about him, and he lost his patience in front of reporters this morning, when it was time to take stock of the team.
Gallant said he was disappointed by the rumours created by the media, and said out loud that he “couldn’t believe it” when asked about them:
All this to say that Gallant still sees himself behind the Rangers bench in the future. He claims to have had no discussions with Chris Drury (GM) and Rangers management about a possible dismissal…
And that’s why he got a little “worked up” in front of reporters today.

So much happened in my life over 12 months. Moving on from the @NYRangers,heartsurgery,setbacks, retiring from field hockey. All things led me to dig deep and think about my mindset/life. That’s what this film is about. Finding happiness became my goal. #OpenHeart June 15th. @Tribeca pic.twitter.com/6mIFHmdBm5
