Summer is almost behind us – *sniffle*– but that doesn't mean you have to stop enjoying fun getaways! Treat yourself to one more vacation over an upcoming long weekend or ring in back-to-school with a bang by visiting Quebec’s Magdalen Islands aka the Îles-de-la-Madeleine. Here are 10 reasons why you NEED to go:

Storytelling
Thanks to the international ‘Contes en Iles’ festival, which takes place from September 5 – 14, storytelling is no longer just for kids! Brought to you by Les rendez-vous Loto-Québec, the fest has a lot of unique experiences to offer and if you happen to understand French, you can watch a sneak peak below!

Drinking
Take a guided tour of the À l'abri de la Tempête brewery then stay in their pub to sample a variety of beers made from local ingredients, like fresh flowers, marine algae and herbs. See, drinking can be educational.

Fresh Food
If you’re a fan of markets overflowing with fresh, vibrant produce and are a bit of a fish fanatic, La Poissonniere has enough seafood to satisfy ALL of your cravings.

Kites
There’s an entire workshop dedicated to helping you perfect your kite-flying skills at Au Gre de Vent, not to mention you can just stop by to admire their colorful one-of-a-kind pieces – win.

Lighthouses
Whether you love them because of their romantic nature or their history, there are LOTS of lighthouses just waiting to be explored, four of which were built as early as the 1870s.

Seals
Picture yourself snorkeling with seals in their natural environment off the coast of the Corps Mort Island and try not to get excited. Sign us up, L’Istorlet.

More Drinking
Le Verger Pomeloi has a glass – or two - of cider made right on the island waiting to be enjoyed by you. Who could possibly resist?

Sand Art
You’re bound to find sand on any island, but definitely not sand sculptures. That’s right, you can marvel at actual works of art created with a little help from the sea at Artisans du Sable.

Cheese
We love us some gourmet cheese and there’s an entire shop, Fromagerie du Pied de Vent, dedicated to this delicious treat. Yum.

Peace
Just look at this view. LOOK!
