July is the greatest month of them all, is it not? Well, at least here in Toronto it is. The weather is glorious, the craziness of June is over, and you can finally relax on a patio because so many are away at the cottage.
But if you're more in the mood to enjoy the city than sit around in the sun, here are the five events I'm most excited for this week:
FILM: Open Roof Festival
This awesome festival happens every Thursday night all summer long, combining my favourite things - live music, film, food and booze. This weeks selection is Locke, a real-time thriller featuring my forever heartthrob, Tom Hardy. Even better, one of my favourite Toronto bands, Weaves, is performing before the film screens.
Where: 99 Sudbury
When: Sundown, July 10th
MUSIC: Lady Gaga
While there are some great indie shows happening at Massey this week, I can't help but think a night with Lady Gaga will be more exciting. Yes, her latest album was a bit of a flop, but I'd still spend an eventing experiencing this artRAVE ball if I had the expendable income.
When: July 9th, 8pm
THEATRE: Fringe Festival
For all you theatre nuts, Fringe is in full effect! Get all the unique, original theatre you can handle this week, from Toronto's up and coming best and brightest. Theatres all over the city will be participating, and the parties will be unreal. As a former theatre kid, I know how hard this group can party.
Where: Venues around the city
When: Until July 13th
PARTY: Carribean Carnival Festival
Toronto is always a blast in the summer because of Caribana - get the party started early as the Caribbean Festival kicks off this week with an official launch at Nathan Phillips Square and a variety of events around the city leading up to the big weekend.
Where: Around the city
When: July 8 - August
EXHIBITION: Modern Man
The ultimate guys night out comes to Roy Thomson Hall on Friday. Grab your favourite dude for drinks, gourmet food, poker, DJs, live music, men's fashion, cigars, shoe shines, beard trims, shaves and all that manly man stuff. Ladies, this event sounds like a single girls fantasy night. Well dressed, classy men in droves.
Where: Roy Thomson Hall
When: July 11th, 7pm
