So the weather has very suddenly turned into summer over the past weekend, and I, like the rest of you, couldn't be happier.
While I sit in the sunshine writing this, here are the five events I'm most excited for this week:
Mirvish is bringing the classic film to the stage with this musical version of the beloved 80s film classic, Flashdance. And in terms of films that transfer well into the musical medium - one all about the importance of dance has to be up there. Looking forward to this one!
Where: Ed Mirvish Theatre
When: May 27th - June 8th
MUSIC: Kurt Vile
If you are unfamiliar with this legendary guitarist, you have a golden opportunity to have your face rocked off by him on Wednesday night at the Phoenix. It was supposed to be at the Horseshoe, but the demand for tickets was so massive they had to move it to the Phoenix. That should be enough to motivate you.
Where: Phoenix Concert Theatre
When: May 28th, 9pm
CHARITY: Fight To End Cancer Charity Boxing Gala
While charity events are never cheap, there's no better way to spend $225 than towards fighting cancer. If you have that kind of cash to donate, you'll get a fancy dinner and access to an Olympic style boxing match, something we rarely get a chance to witness in Toronto. All proceeds go to Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
Where: The Old Mill Inn
When: May 31st, 5pm
SHOP: Midnight MRKT
Midnight MRKT is known for bringing great music, eats, fashion and retailers together for a late night shopping experience you won't find anywhere else in the city. These events are infrequent, but always well worth the wait, so don't miss out or it'll be a while before you get the opportunity again!
Where: 2nd Floor Events
When: May 30th, 9pm - 1am
OUTDOORS: Toronto Island House & History Tour
There's really no better way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon than exploring the historic and beautiful properties on Ward Island. Take the ferry over, and once the tour is done you can spend some time on the beach sunbathing. The perfect end to the week.
Where: Ward Island
When: June 1st, 12-5pm
