It's a cool week to be in Toronto as the city celebrates 180 years of existence! We are still quite young compared to many similar sized cities, yet we're at the top of the pack in many ways.

Toronto always has many reasons celebrate, and my top 5 picks this week showcase just a few.

FILM: Canadian Screen Week

While we're coming off all the glitz and glamour of the Oscars, it's easy to forget that Canada does indeed have its own industry - and one that also deserves to be celebrated. This week long celebration of the best in film and television culminates with a big awards show at Sony Centre on Sunday night, airing at 8pm on CBC.

Where: Various Venues

When:  All week long!

MUSIC: Long Winter Volume Five

As winter, finally, gloriously comes to an end - we also say goodbye to my beloved Long Winter until it returns again with the cold in November. It is bittersweet. Happy to see winter finally go, but sad to lose this monthly music and arts celebration. If you haven't yet been, this is your last chance for a long time - so go!

ART: Comicon

Every nerds dream come true returns to Toronto this weekend. Lovers of superheros and Stan Lee unite to meet their favourite actors and mingle with people dressed up in character. The boldest attendees even dress up themselves. It's like Halloween all over again. Not so nerdy: you can meet Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito this year! Worth it.

Where: Metro Toronto Convention Centre

When: March 7 - 9

PHOTOGRAPY: Snap! Photography Silent Auction Gala

If you love a beautifully composed photograph as much as I do, this gala is the place you need to be this week. The $100 ticket covers the cocktail reception, DJ, art preview, the auction, hors d'oeuvers and an open bar.

PARTY:  Toronto's 180th Birthday!

The city is getting older, and that means it's time for a birthday party! Lucky for us, some smarties have come together to create a big bash at Steam Whistle, celebrating Toronto's past, present and future.
