Unlike this time last year, when The Social Network and The King's Speech were already locked in a battle for the Best Picture Oscar, this year's movie landscape hasn't yet delivered any standout frontrunners. Thank goodness Hollywood is finally kicking it up a notch with a new batch of films, just in time for the holidays. Whether it's Academy Award-baiting fare like My Week with Marilyn or blockbuster sequels like Sherlock Holmes, here are the 10 films we here at Dose.ca are dying to see.

• New Year's Eve: Yes, it's from the same people who brought us the cheezy Valentine's Day. And yes, the trailer is cringe-worthy. But 'tis the season to embrace guilty pleasures! A who's who of just this kind of movie - Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Sarah Jessica Parker, Zac Efron, Jessica Biel and more - star in this romantic comedy about a group of people whose lives are intertwined on Dec. 31. (Dec. 9)

Juno director and writer Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody reunite in this story of a bitter teen lit author (Charlize Theron) who returns to her hometown to try to reclaim her happily married high-school sweetheart. (Dec. 16)

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol: Tom Cruise returns - and where's he been anyway? - as operative Ethan Hunt, who is falsely blamed for a terrorist bombing of the Kremlin. The franchise gets a new boost of eye candy with the addition of Jeremy Renner. (Dec. 21)

(where he won $31,000). (Limited release Dec. 25, expands Jan. 20)
